A one-day Faculty Development Workshop on Outcomes-Based Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (OBTLA) for Ayurveda students was the first workshop of the Institute of Medicine to align with teaching, learning, and outcome assessment based on the BAMS curriculum framework, focusing on competencies and values in clinical practices, held on July 5, 2026, at Dhanwantari Hall, Academic Building.
The inaugural session of the Faculty Development Workshop commenced under the chairpersonship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shiva Mangal Prasad, Campus Chief of the Ayurveda Campus. Prof. Mandira Shahi, Medical Educationist and former Executive Director of the National Centre for Health Professions Education (NCHPE), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The session was effectively conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Bishun Dayal Prasad Patel, who welcomed the dignitaries, conducted the proceedings, coordinated the National Anthem and ceremonial activities, and ensured the smooth flow of the program from commencement to conclusion.
The Faculty Development Workshop is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in implementing outcome-based education within the BAMS curriculum. The program includes sessions on the principles of OBE and OBTLA, writing SMART learning outcomes using Bloom’s Taxonomy, innovative teaching-learning strategies, lesson plan development, curriculum competencies, constructive alignment, and assessment methods such as blueprinting, MCQs, OSPE/OSCE, and rubrics. Interactive lectures, group work, presentations, and discussions, along with pre- and post-tests, ensure active learning, reflection, evaluation, and effective application in educational practice.
The closing session of the workshop was conducted in a formal and celebratory manner. The session was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shiva Mangal Prasad, Campus Chief and Chairperson of the Research Management Cell (RMC), while Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal, Rector of Tribhuvan University, was honoured as the Chief Guest. Distinguished academicians and medical educationists, Prof. Dr. Mandira Shahi mam and Prof. Dr. Pradeep Vaidya sir participated as guests of honour in the closing ceremony and graced the ceremony. The chief guest addressed the ceremony and Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal. Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahara Shrestha welcomed dignitaries, while Asst. Prof. Dr. Bishun Dayal Prasad Patel presented a one-day review of the workshop. The programme was conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nirmal Bhusal, who efficiently coordinated the proceedings, including participant feedback, speeches by the guests of honour and Chief Guest, certificate distribution, felicitation, closing remarks, group photographs, and high tea, ensuring a formal and well-organized academic event.
